5th Annual “Participatory Course on Democracy and Human Rights (PCDHR)”

September 5-13, 2014. Lahore - Pakistan

INTRODUCTION
The First Module of 5th Participatory Course on Democracy and Human Rights (PCDHR) was
held  from September 5 to 13, 2014 at  Dar-ul-Mussarat  Training  Institute  Lahore  under  the
auspices  of  Center  for  Human  Rights  Education-Pakistan  with  the  support  of  National
Endowment for Democracy (NED).

29  Human Rights Defenders/Educators and university  students  from different areas of Punjab,
Sindh, Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa has participated in this training.

PCDHR  is an  in-depth long-duration  learning program  for human  rights defenders, university students,  journalists,  political  activists, which  puts  a  strong  emphasis  on  transfer  of  learning. Therefore  in the end of first module, the participants  are  required  to  develop  an  individual  plan  to  ensure  that  the learning from this course should be kept into practice.

The course  is conducted  in a participatory method  to enhance  the understanding of  the participants on  the concept of Human Rights and Democracy and  to strengthen their skills  to work effectively for the protection and promotion of human rights and democracy.

The  course  has  got  a  significant  recognition  nationally  and  internationally  and  a  huge competition  has  been  observed  for  the  selection  in  the  PCDHR.  Centre  for  Human  Rights Education  received  353  applications  for  the  course this year and  the  participants  of  the course under report are selected out of these huge number of applicants.

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide knowledge to polish conceptual clarity on human rights and democracy
  • Sensitize participants to their particular role and the implementation of Individual plans.
  • Protecting and promoting democracy and human rights in their local and available resources.
  • Building partnership and networking with other organizations and building up the culture of volunteerism.
  • Practicing the learning of the course

Centre for Human Rights Education organized a Seminar to discuss “Current Political Crisis in Pakistan:  Effects and Way Forward” on September 6, 2014 at Lahore. The seminar was the part of Participatory Course on Democracy and Human Rights (PCDHR) held on September 5-13, 2014 at Lahore.
